Dan Aykroyd ist fest überzeugt,
dass es Leben außerhalb des Planeten Erde gibt.
Nun will der Schauspieler und Blues Brother
sogar eine DVD über Aliens auf den Markt bringen.
Wie der Online-Dienst "ContactMusic.com" berichtet,
führte er ein Interview
mit dem renommierten UFO-Experten David Sereda.
Begeistert von dem Gespräch,
entschied Aykroyd, es zu veröffentlichten.
Die DVD "Dan Aykroyd Unplugged On UFOs" steht seit 30.05.06
in den amerikanischen Verkaufsregalen.
Wann sie hierzulande erscheint, steht noch nicht fest.

Dan Aykroyd war sogar schon mal mit einem Alien verheiratet -
allerdings nur im Film.
In "Meine Stiefmutter ist ein Alien"
spielte 1988 Kim Basinger seine außerirdische Frau.

Five Former Soviet Republics Give Up Nukes

SAN FRANCISCO - The Bush Administration is objecting to a groundbreaking treaty that set up a nuclear weapon-free zone in Central Asia.

Under the treaty signed Friday, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan committed themselves not to produce, buy, or allow the deployment of nuclear weapons on their soil.

But the United States, along with Britain and France, refused to attend the signing ceremony in the Kazakh capital, Almaty, citing a 1992 treaty that Russia signed with four of the five nations that Moscow claims could allow missiles to be deployed in the region.

In a fresh statement issued Monday, the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan warned that "other international treaties could take precedence over the provisions of this treaty, and thus obviate the central objective of creating a zone free of nuclear weapons."

Arms control groups believe the Bush administration is being disingenuous.

"The reason that many of us suspect the U.S. is opposed to this is more fundamental," the independent Arms Control Association's Daryl G. Kimball told OneWorld. "This is a very strategic region. The U.S. is reticent to give up the option of deploying nuclear weapons in this region in the future."

In May, the journal Foreign Policy named Manas airbase in Kyrgyzstan one of the six most important U.S. military bases in the world. The base was originally established as a hub for multinational operations following the September 11th attacks five years ago.

"In addition to its proximity to Afghanistan," the Foreign Policy article stated, "Manas is located near the immense energy reserves of the Caspian Basin, as well as the Russian and Chinese frontiers."

According to Jackie Cabasso, who heads up the Western States Legal Foundation in Oakland, California, "the United states had drawn up a battle plan for the potential use of nuclear weapons in Iraq and the Untied States has been involved in planning potential nuclear use scenarios for Iran."

"The United States is now involved in a massive program to overhaul its nuclear arsenal," she added. "In fact they're working to replace every nuclear warhead and all of the existing delivery systems in the arsenal to ensure prompt precision global strike capabilities. So the United States is openly using the threatened use of nuclear weapons around the world."

David Krieger of the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation added that members of the Bush administration "like to talk about expanding the use of nuclear weapons and talk about the 'preventive use' of nuclear weapons [but seem] to be negative toward a group of countries trying to create a ban on nuclear weapons within their territory."

By contrast, arms control experts argue, former Soviet republics in Central Asia have every reason to want to rid themselves of their nuclear legacy.

During the Cold War, the Soviet Union used a facility at Semipalatinsk in Kazakhstan to test new nuclear weapons. Between 1949 and 1989 almost 500 nuclear explosions were carried out there, equaling the explosive power of 20,000 Hiroshima bombs.

According to the country's president, Nursultan Nazarbayev, those explosions caused irreparable damage to the health of more than 1.5 million Kazakh citizens, blighted lives, and rendered vast stretches of land useless for generations.

Western States Legal Foundation's Cabasso told OneWorld the central Asian nation has one of the strongest anti-nuclear movements in the world.

She described a visit to Kazakhstan, made in 1990 shortly after the fall of the Soviet Union.

"It was amazing," Cabasso said. "When we flew from Moscow to the capital Almaty, there were people on the run-way in traditional costumes holding signs like 'Let the Generals Build Their Summer Houses on the Nuclear Test Site.'"

Cabasso said the movement for a nuclear free Central Asia began with a poet and member of the Soviet Duma named Olzhas Suleimenov. In 1989, after discovering that some of the underground nuclear tests had leaked radiation into the atmosphere, he went on television and called for a mass meeting at the writers' union hall. Over 5,000 people showed up the next day.

"They organized on a massive scale," Cabasso said. "Ten thousand copper miners went out on strike, there were billboards at the airport. Imagine if you had anti-nuclear demonstrations going on during half-time at the Super Bowl. They were calling for a peaceful non-nuclear transition to the 21st century back in 1990 and now they have completed that transition in a way."

The treaty between Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan created the first nuclear-weapons free zone in the Northern Hemisphere. Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, the South Pacific, Southeast Asia, and Africa have already pledged to remain nuclear free.

I find not one good reason to prolong the pain and suffering inflicted upon the Lebanese + Palestinian people with inhumane weapons laced with phosphor + depleted uranium.

Nor do I find any good reason why the Lebanese people should be forced out of their own country.

They suddenly have no clean water, homes or food.

This MASS DESTRUCTION and GENOCIDE can't be blamed on a few thousand Hezbollah soldiers with cheap, and old weapons that were most likely supplied by souvern nations.

It makes no sense.

I don't understand.

I don't want to understand what their reasons are for this mayhem.

Although I believe I do understand completely what their reasons are, I do not wish to comply nor be associated with those supporting or agreeing with such.

I thought Germany would continue it's new found independence intelligently and humanely.

Die Situation im Nahen Osten ist in den letzten Tagen dramatisch eskaliert. Wir schicken unsere Gebete und Gedanken tiefer Solidarität an all unsere Freunde und Kollegen im Nahen Osten. Noch entschlossener setzen wir uns ein für den Aufbau einer komplexen Alternative, die dass derzeitige System des Krieges überwindet.

Wir schicken Ihnen auch die folgende Stellungnahme der Friedensjournalistin Leila Dregger.
Dieter Duhm und Sabine Lichtenfels arbeiten an einer umfassenden Stellungnahme zu der derzeitigen Situation, die wir in der nächsten Woche versenden werden.

Verlasst die Matrix des Krieges im Nahen Osten

Es schnürt mir das Herz zu, wenn ich sehe, wie der Krieg im Nahen Osten eskaliert. Schon wieder. Schon so lang. Wann hat dieser Wahnsinn ein Ende!
Die Hisbollah wirft Bomben auf Israel. Die israelische Regierung wirft Bomben auf den Libanon und spricht von „Entwaffnung“ der Hisbollah, als wäre dies eine kurze, faire Sache, mit der man die Gewalt endlich beenden könne. In Wirklichkeit bombardiert sie ein ganzes Land und sät damit täglich tausend Gründe für neue Gewalt. Und die Welt verharrt in Untätigkeit.

Es sind Hunderte von Menschen, die bereits gestorben sind in den Bomben dieses Krieges. Es sind Kinder und Eltern, Soldaten sowie Menschen, die ganz ohne Schuld zwischen die Fronten des Krieges geraten sind.
Ist es nicht egal, aus welchem Land sie sind?
Kommt es wirklich noch darauf an, wer angefangen hat?
Können wir nicht sehen, dass jede neue Bombe, jede neue Gewalttat neue Gewalt nach sich zieht?
Alle Kriegsparteien funktionieren nach der gleichen Matrix von Angst und Rache, von Opferdenken und Ohnmachtgefühl, von der Unfähigkeit, die andere Seite zu verstehen, und dem Glauben, dass Gewalt die einzige Option ist. Der Krieg aber wird erst enden, wenn eine der Parteien den Mut hat, aus dieser Matrix auszusteigen. Regierungen werden dies von selbst nicht tun. Es liegt an uns.

Lasst uns eine andere Kettenreaktion in Gang setzen!
Wir bitten all unsere Freunde im Nahen Osten: Auch wenn eure ganze Umgebung angesteckt ist: lasst euch nicht von diesem Irrsinn infizieren. Für die vielen unschuldigen Opfer gibt es keine Tröstung. Dennoch sind wir alle aufgefordert, die Matrix des Krieges zu durchschauen und uns an die reale Möglichkeit des Friedens zu erinnern.

Die wichtigste Nachricht jetzt ist vielleicht, dass es auch in dieser Situation Menschen auf beiden Seiten gibt, die nicht mit Wut, Angst oder Hass reagieren. Menschen, die auch jetzt noch voller Mut, Besonnenheit und Solidarität alles für den Frieden tun.

So planen die Mitglieder der Friedensgruppe Middleway, in einem Schweigemarsch mit weißen Kleidern an die Grenze zum Libanon zu gehen.
So führt der Holy Land Trust in Bethlehem, der in Palästina 600 Lehrer für gewaltlosen Widerstand ausbildete und ganze Dörfer dazu brachte, sich auf ihre gewaltfreien Traditionen zu besinnen, derzeit ein gewaltfreies Sommercamp durch.
So organisieren die Combatants for Peace – ehemalige Kämpfer beider Seiten, die die Waffen niedergelegt haben – gemeinsame Friedensaktionen.
So leben in Neve Shalom / Wahat al Salaam seit vielen Jahren israelische und palästinensischen Familien nachbarschaftlich zusammen mit der bewussten Entscheidung den Konflikt zu überwinden. Momentan ist ihr Gästehaus gefüllt mit Familien, die aus dem Norden Israels geflohen sind. Ein grosser Teil der Bewohnerinnen nahm an der Demonstration in Tel Aviv gegen den Krieg teil.
So gibt es Menschen aus der Region, die im Friedensforschungszentrum Tamera/Portugal das ökologische, soziale, spirituelle und technische Wissen zum Aufbau von Friedensdörfern studieren, um damit in den Nahen Osten zurückzukehren.

Vergessen wir auch nicht, dass es bereits eine politische Friedenslösung gibt, die Genfer Initiative, ein von beiden Seiten lang und fair ausgehandelter Friedensplan für Israel und Palästina. Und es gibt mit dem Plan der Friedensdörfer eine Perspektive dafür, mit Menschen verschiedener Kulturen zunächst im kleineren Maßstab die Matrix des Krieges zu beenden und durch die Matrix des Lebens und des Friedens zu ersetzen.

An alle Träumer und Realisten, an alle, die das Leben lieben, an alle Freunde des Friedens:
Lasst uns gegen den Strom schwimmen: In einer Zeit, wo die Bomben fallen, lasst uns den Traum nähren, diese Region, das heilige Land, den Nahen Osten von einer Konfliktregion zu verwandeln in ein Land, in dem Friede gelernt werden kann: Friede zwischen Kulturen und Nationen, Friede im Zusammenleben unter Menschen, Friede mit der Natur.

Wir rufen alle unsere Freunde in der Welt, seien sie Israelis, Palästinenser, US-Amerikaner, Deutsche: Lasst uns die Matrix des Krieges durchschauen und beenden. Wenden wir uns zuerst an die eigene Gesellschaft und erkennen, wo sie Teil dieses Krieges ist: Ob durch direkte Gewalt, ob durch Unterdrücken der Wahrheit und Einseitigkeit, ob durch Lieferung von Waffen oder durch Gleichgültigkeit. Lasst uns die Mittäterschaft und die Matrix des Krieges durchschauen, andere darüber informieren und sie beenden, wo immer wir können.
Erkennen wir auf der anderen Seite die Matrix des Lebens. Sie ist immer vorhanden.

Es gibt in jeder Situation eine andere Möglichkeit als Gewalt.
